Dorothy E. Opitz, age 93, St. Cloud, MN, died Friday, May 30, 2014 at Prairie Ridge in Sauk Rapids, MN.
In a word “Bootsie” was tenacious. Born on July 15, 1920 to John and Catherine (Backer) Barthelemy in Luxemburg, MN. She was baptized a short time later because she was so tiny they did not expect her to survive. She also survived rheumatic fever as a child and later in life multiple surgeries and breast cancer.
On February 10, 1942, Dorothy married Adrian Opitz and they had five wonderful children, Adrian Lee (LouAnne) Opitz, Jeff (Jane) Opitz, Pam Weller, Diane Opitz and Judy (Dion) Netter, 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Adrian; her siblings; Jeanne, Violet, Lillian and Danny and their spouses as well as her husbands siblings and their spouses. We told you she was Tenacious.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 11:30 AM at Benson Funeral Home Chapel, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN.
