Richard (Dick) John Mesenburg, age 72, of St. Louis Park, MN passed away Wednesday, June 25. Dick was born in St. Cloud, MN to Adolph and Mildred Mesenburg on August 1, 1941. Dick grew up in St. Cloud, attended St. Cloud Tech High School and went on to study elementary education at St. Cloud State University where he earned his bachelors and masters degree, later earning his specialist degree in education from St. Mary’s University. After graduation, he married Bonnie Jean Mueller. They started their careers together in Iowa, where Dick took his first principal job. They later moved to Wisconsin Dells, WI where their first son, Matthew was born. In the 70’s Dick moved his family to the Twin Cities where son Eric was born and he continued his career, ultimately becoming the director of elementary education for the state of Minnesota.
Dick had a passion for learning, photography, the theatre, antiques, travel and children. His greatest passion being his four grandchildren. His big smile, jovial personality, charisma and genuine warmth will be greatly missed by many.
He is survived by sons Matthew Mesenburg, wife, Michelle and children, Alexandra and Blake of Orono and Eric Mesenburg, wife, Christy and children Max and Samantha of Maple Grove. Dick is preceded in death by his former wife, Bonnie Mesenburg, parents Adolph and Mildred Mesenburg and sister Jeanette Benson.
Services will be held at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Maple Grove, MN on Tuesday, July 1. Visitation at 3:00 pm followed by 4:00 pm service. Burial will be in North Star Cemetery, St. Cloud, MN. Memorials can be made to Alzheimer’s Association. Funeral arrangements by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
