     Maxine Marie Johnson, age 99, Sartell, MN, died Monday, July 28, 2014, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
     There will be no funeral service as per Maxine’s wishes. Interment will be in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Columbarium. Arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
     Maxine was born in Brookings, SD on February 26, 1915 to Percy and Jenny (Willey) Kennard. She was united in marriage to Joye G. Johnson on April 5, 1941 and they farmed south of Volga, SD until 1989 when they moved to St. Cloud, MN. Maxine was active in Lake Campbell Lutheran Church of rural Volga, SD and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in circles and quilters groups. She was an avid reader, especially of U.S. history, a skilled cross word puzzle solver and attributed her long life to “fresh air and hard work.”
     Survivors include daughters, Jo Marie Sweep and her husband, Lou of Lakeville, MN; and Linda Gustafson Berreau and her husband, Darold of St. Cloud MN; eight grandchildren, Susan (Jesse) Hennig and their children, Skyler, Madison and Steven; Brian (Caitlin) Sweep and their children, Stephen and Sophia; Sean Sweep; Molly (Greg) Fouts and their children, Evan, Lily and Noah; Tim Sweep; Lisa (Danny) Schiefelbein and their son, Jack; Jennie (fiancé Joe Gonzales) Gustafson; and Kristen Berreau; brother, Larry Kennard of Mesa, AZ; sisters, Dona Wallum of Brookings, SD; and Patty Retzlaff of Gilbertsville, PA.
     Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joye on February 8, 2003, and brother, Roland Kennard.
