     Vernon “Vern” Lester Anders, 89, Waite Park, MN, died Friday, October 24, 2014 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, St. Cloud, MN.
     Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at 12:30 PM at Calvary Community Church, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be Monday, October 27, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN.
     Vern was born October 3, 1925 on the home farm in Litchfield, MN to Walter and Mary (Carlson) Anders. He served in the United States Navy during World War II as a radio operator, stationed at Pearl Harbor towards the end of the war.
     On June 6, 1947, Vern was united in marriage to Glenis Burgstahler in Buffalo Lake, MN. They resided in Hutchinson, MN until 1969 when they moved to St. Joseph, MN. They adopted and raised a daughter, Sandi, who lived in North Carolina and a son, Jay who resides in Thailand. Vern and Glenis shared 62 years of marriage until Glenis passed away on October 8, 2009.
     Vern had several different jobs over the years. He worked in a grocery store, was a cookie salesman, circulation supervisor for Minneapolis Star Tribune and a financial planner with Ameriprise. He retired in 1986. Vern was a member of Calvary Community Church. For many years he was a volunteer with the Jacob Wetterling Foundation and delivered meals for Meals on Wheels.
     Vern and Glenis enjoyed traveling and made trips to most every state in the United States, as well as many European and South American countries. His favorite destination was Hawaii. Vern owned and flew several airplanes and belonged to a flying club while residing in Hutchinson. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing and boating.
     Survivors include son, Jay Anders of Phuket, Thailand; daughter, Sandra Franks of Tryon, NC; two grandchildren, Allison Anders of Minneapolis, MN and Christopher (Sarah) Franks of Kusan, South Korea, AFB, two great grandchildren, Olsen Franks and Emmalyn Franks.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Glenis on October 8, 2009, five brothers, Elmer Anders, Alden Anders, Bert Anders, Ansel Anders, Ellery Anders and one sister, Vivian Williams.
