Lorraine M. Perkins, age 95 of Apple Valley, formerly of St. Cloud, died September 14, 2015 at Seasons at Apple Valley Care Center.
A funeral service celebrating Lorraine’s life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 24, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church in St. Cloud. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at North Star Cemetery. Arrangements were made with Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud.
Lorraine was born on April 29, 1920 in Paynesville, MN to George and Matilda (Schroeder) Andrews. She was married to Eugene Perkins on June 28, 1942 in Hayward, CA. After graduating from Paynesville H.S. she attended the St. Cloud Teachers College where she obtained a B.A. in English She also earned a Masters Degree from SCSU. Lorraine worked as a High School English teacher in Echo, MN and as a professor at SCSU for 24 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Kappa Delta Pi, P.E.O. and several book clubs. Lorraine founded and directed the writing center at SCSU, housed students from Japan and Persia, taught East Asian families through church, and oversaw the church library. She enjoyed painting, playing organ and piano, traveling, gardening, and her cats.
Lorraine is survived by her children, David Eugene Perkins of LeRoy, MN and Douglas Andrews (Sue Gerk Talley) Perkins of Apple Valley, MN; grandchildren Lyle (Heather) Spring, Kellie Perkins, Christina (Joshua) Vercruyssen, Reed (Betsy) Perkins, Drew (Heather) Perkins; great grandchildren, Stephanie Spring, Christopher Spring, Sarah Vercruyssen, Chance Vercruyssen, and Phoebe Litman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene Reed Perkins; brother, Jim and sisters, Nancy and Jean; and her son Gerald Reed Perkins
