Geraldine “Gerry” Mabel Laakso, age 97, Sartell, MN, formerly of Fairhaven, MN, died Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Country Manor Health Care Center, Sartell, MN.
Funeral services will be Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 5:00 PM at Country Manor Care Center Chapel, Sartell, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel in Sartell on Thursday. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
Gerry was born March 10, 1919 in Montrose, MN to Charles and Clara (Weese) Volkenant. She married John W. Laakso on June 7, 1941 in Montrose, MN. Gerry was a charter member of Rejoice Lutheran Church of Clearwater, MN. She began painting wildlife at the age of 92. Gerry also enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, reading, traveling, keeping up on current events, and especially spending time with family. Gerry volunteered with Meals On Wheels, at the St. Cloud Veterans Administration Medical Center and as a classroom assistant at Kimball Elementary School.
Survivors include children, Dan (Karen) Laakso of Outing, MN; Kathryn Laakso of St. Cloud, MN; Steve (Debi) Laakso of Sauk Rapids, MN; Gretchen (Tim DuBois) Laakso of South Haven, MN; 12 grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Jon Laakso, Jodi Laakso, Madeline Johnson, Elena Bjorklund, Charles DuBois, Selah Laakso, Paul Keller, Heidi Keller-Miler, Peter Keller, Colleen Keller, Amanda Reiners and Michael Reiners; 19 great grandchildren, Claire, Adam, Jacy, Livia, Madison, Casey, Austin, Sana, Franz, Stella, Mia, Keller, Ronan, Madeline, Theo, Mason, Madison, Theodore, and Loretta; brother, Glenn Volkenant of Winnetka, CA; sister, Myrl Wright of Helena, MT.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John on May 24, 2012, son-in-law, David Keller, and brother, Melvin Volkenant. |
