Amedeo “John” Sorci, age 91, St. Cloud, MN, died Monday, October 17, 2016, at the St. Cloud Hospital, St. Cloud, MN.
Funeral services will be Friday, October 21, 2016, at 1:00 PM at Joy Christian Center, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be from 11:30 AM until the time of service on Friday at the church. Burial will be at a later date in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
John was born April 13, 1925, in Hibbing, MN, to Amedeo E. and Angeline (Collyard) Sorci. He served in the US Army from 1943 - 1944. John married Evelyn E. Larson, (also a veteran) on May 5, 1951, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, St. Cloud, MN. He taught Industrial Arts for the St. Cloud School District 742 for 30 years. He substitute taught for 12 more years. John attended Joy Christian Center, St. Cloud, MN.
John was an active member of the Gideons International. He loved the friendship he had with his fellow Gideons, and he always enjoyed giving out Gideon Bibles at various local colleges and the Benton County Fair. He was blessed with a very creative mind and was also artistically talented. No problem or project was too large or complicated for him to solve. John would very often be found working and tinkering on appliances and gadgets. He was an avid collector of clocks and he often gave them away to people who stopped to see him. In the 1950's he worked at Fandel's Department Store where he had the privilege of installing one of the first televisions in the St. Cloud area.
John absolutely loved shopping and driving around on his scooter in all kinds of stores! He was always up for going on short road trips with his family. One of his favorite places, in times past, was the State Fair. Watch out if you were in the way of him on his scooter!! He also enjoyed sitting by the lake in Alexandria, and eating lots of fish, of course. By far the greatest joys in John's life were his relationship with his Lord, his dear wife, Lol, his loving daughters and their families!!!!
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Sorci of St. Cloud, MN; daughters, Mary (Tom) Kalusche of St. Cloud, MN; Lisa (Jacob) Trammell of St. Cloud, MN; Jule (Jules) Zimmer of Princeton, MN; and Stacy (Alan) Clitty of Sartell, MN; his grandchildren Amber (Scott) Eisenschenk, Jesse (Amy) Zimmer, Jonathan (Jolene) Zimmer, Angela (Davy) Nitsch, Jordan Clitty, and nine great grandchildren; brother, Roger Sorci of Duluth, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson John Kalusche; brothers Anthony Sorci and Vince Sorci; sisters Agnes Frank, Amelia Jerulle, and Doretta Haden.
Memorials are preferred to Gideons International.
