DOROTHY L. SCHROEDER, 91
Sartell
May 29, 1925 - November 16, 2016
Loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Dorothy Schroeder, 91, originally of Long Prairie, passed away November 16, 2016, at Country Manor in Sartell, with family by her side.
Dorothy was born to the late Rueben and Ingeborg (Nelson) Adamson, May 29, 1925, in Willmar, MN. She received a BA from Superior State in Superior, WI having studied English, History, and Library Science. She married Roland Schroeder in 1948 in Long Prairie, MN. She was a high school teacher and librarian before becoming a homemaker and living in Long Prairie most of her life.
Dorothy enjoyed golf, reading, art, travel and theater. She was a secret architect and artist; she designed the renovation of their home and painted portraits of her grandchildren that captured their personalities. She had a feisty, yet good sense of humor, and a wonderful smile that could light up a room. Dorothy was an elegant woman who inspired her children and grandchildren to be well read, seek knowledge, and travel the world. Her side door was always open to them, as well as any other child in the neighborhood who needed a place to go. She was quick to offer snacks and a refuge. Her children and grandchildren were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Dorothy during her 91 years, among them: never quit; when you make a commitment to something, see it through; always use proper grammar (she was forever correcting us); be inclusive; when the going gets tough, buck up; never stop learning; and always avoid meal compression, for Dorothy loved good food, especially desserts. [“Don't you agree”, Mom/Grandma?(!)]. Dorothy and her granddaughter, Liz, initiated 'Girlz Weekend' 25 years ago. Each year, the women of her family meet, enjoy meals, shop, and attend a Vikings game. Dorothy will be missed dearly by all her knew her.
Survivors include her daughters and their spouses, Lynn (Rodger) Johnston, Jill (Phil Banks) Schroeder, Ann (Peter) Kuzj; 6 grandchildren, J (Molly) Johnston, Elizabeth (Peter) Schnobrich, Joseph Kuzj, Catherine Kuzj, Alison Kuzj, and Andrea Kuzj; and 6 great grandchildren, Peyton, Cole, Liam, Eden, Ellianna and Amelia. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Roland; siblings and their spouses, Richard (Patricia) Adamson, Norm Adamson, and Margaret (Jim) Jeffrey.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association (http://www.alz.org/). A celebration of life ceremony will be held at the Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, at 11:00 AM on Saturday June 24, 2017. Benson Funeral home, St. Cloud, has been entrusted with the arrangements. |
